Recap of A.B.I.D.E. Infertility Support Group – Thursday, June 11th, 2015

As always God was faithful to bless us with another powerful meeting even with the small group of us that were able to make it to be together.  We missed so much those of you who were busy with other obligations and plans.  Looking forward to reuniting with you all soon.

A quick recap for those that were missing.
We finished up Jonah week 3 days 3-5.  We walked and talked further through the three steps of reconciliation with God.  1)Acknowledging sin, 2) Accepting the discipline, and 3) Asking for forgiveness.

Day 3: We discussed agreeing with God.  “If we agree with God about our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us form all unrighteousness.” John 1:9  He is willing to take the old and replace it with the grand newness of life in Him.  We don’t have to go one more day or take one more step with the shame of yesterday’s choices and unwise decisions weighing us down.  Like God did for Jonah by honoring his desire to yield despite past failure, God is eager and willing to do the same for us.

Day 4: “Going with God” After being in the belly of a whale for 3 days and then cast out back onto dry land with his life preserved.  Jonah had no doubt Yahweh had given him his life and protection.  After this new revelation Jonah decided that being in God’s will was the best direction he could travel.  He chose to abandon the path of disobedience and defiance and get in step with God’s plans.  However, true sacrificial obedience would cost Jonah something more than just a one-time decision to go to Nineveh.  Likewise, we must be willing to obey the small details along the pathway to obedience to the Lord as well.  Raise your hands to Him in submission and surrender and commit to go where He is leading.

Day 5: We learned of three themes related to valuably enhancing our prayer lives: the pattern of prayer, the passion of prayer, and the posture of prayer.  Jonah 2 shows the power of praying the Scriptures.  No prayer is more effective than the one that finds it roots in the pages of God’s Word.  Jonah challenges us: Have we taken the time to inscribe God’s Word on our hearts to pull from and construct powerful prayers pertaining to our unique situations?

The second theme is passion.  “Cry out” to God.  While fervent prayers do not always guarantee an affirmative answer from God, they do seem to capture His attention in a powerful way.  Jonah’s story teaches us the desperate circumstances we find ourselves in while navigating a life interrupted require desperate measures, not the least of which is revamping our prayer lives from meaningless words to carefully calculated dialogue.  Passionate and purposeful prayer must engage our mind, will, and emotion.

The third lesson was the posture of prayer.  Jonah was in a desperate situation and yet his prayer was not for deliverance.  It was a prayer of deliverance.  Jonah prayed with gratitude and thanksgiving.  His vow to the Lord was a promise to praise Him even though he did not know how the Lord would allow the circumstance to work itself out.  “Deliverance is from the Lord”.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord, “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8-9)

Our first Hannah Bear was given in December 2013 to woman named Carolyn who suffered a miscarriage.
A BEAR HUG from A.B.I.D.E. Ministry - Hannah Bear Project

The Hannah Bear Project started in November 2013.  This outreach is our way of giving grieving parents a BEAR HUG from A.B.I.D.E. Ministry.

Last month, we gave one Hannah Bear to a family who had suffered the devastation of multiple miscarriages.  With your support, we’re bringing comfort to hurting hearts in the name of Jesus.

Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.” Isaiah 40:1

If you know someone who needs a Hannah Bear or you would like to donate, please email A.B.I.D.E. ministry at abide@horizon.org for more details.

A THANK YOU note from a woman who received a Hannah Bear after the loss of her infant:

“I just opened the present…It is the cutest teddy bear with a card…I can’t believe they sent that and are praying for me without knowing me.  I’m blown away by their kindness and their capacity to send love to others…I am touched and my heart is warmed.” -Jessica
